Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU): New Sick Leave Payment Rules Starting April 4

04/04/2025

As of April 4, 2025, amendments to the social insurance legislation will come into effect, as introduced by Law of Ukraine No. 4158-IX. The main innovation is the expansion of the right to receive sick leave benefits for individuals working multiple jobs, according to the PFU.

From now on, temporary disability and maternity leave benefits will be provided not only at the primary place of employment but also at all additional places of employment (secondary jobs). There is no limit to the number of such workplaces.

If the insured person is injured or falls ill due to a workplace accident, then:

  • Another employer (not the one where the incident occurred) must pay the first 5 days of sick leave at their own expense, at 100% of the employee's average salary, regardless of the employee’s insurance history;
  • From the 6th day onward, the sick leave will be funded by the Pension Fund of Ukraine.

In cases where the insurance event occurred directly at the workplace, the employer is responsible for fully covering the first 17 days of temporary disability from their own funds.
