Germany and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have allocated a €20 million grant to support the development of renewable energy in Ukraine

The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs of Germany, the European Investment Bank, and the Ministry of Reintegration of Ukraine have agreed to sign a €20 million grant for the implementation of the Renewable Energy Solution Programme (RES). The German government intends to use this grant to support the transformation of energy systems and the 'green' reconstruction in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement and Ukraine's path to joining the European Union. This will be another crucial step in the longstanding cooperation between Germany and Ukraine.

It is noted that the grant will contribute to the implementation of renewable energy technologies in Ukrainian municipalities (schools, hospitals, kindergartens) and enhance the energy independence of public institutions. This will be achieved through the introduction of solar energy systems, the use of biomass, geothermal heat pumps, and the installation of battery storage.

This initiative will complement existing framework credit agreements with the EIB, particularly regarding the improvement of energy efficiency in public buildings in Ukraine amounting to €300 million, as well as two recovery programs for Ukraine with a total value of €540 million.
