Canadian Black Iron Signs Land Lease Agreement in Dnipropetrovsk Region for Shymanivske Iron Ore Project

Black Iron, a Canadian iron ore exploration and development company, has signed a long-term lease agreement with the city of Kryvyi Rih for 248 hectares of land. This land is critical for completing studies required to renew the special permit for the development of the Shymanivske iron ore deposit. The leased area covers a significant portion of the future mine and part of the land currently used by the Ministry of Defense as a military range. Black Iron also plans to lease additional land in Kryvyi Rih, with negotiations already underway for its transfer and lease.

The Shymanivske deposit has significant reserves of high-quality iron ore, making it strategically important for the steel industry. The Black Iron project includes:

  1. Mining of iron ore with a high iron content (68% Fe after beneficiation).
  2. Construction of a modern processing plant to produce concentrate.
  3. Development of transportation infrastructure to export the product.

The project is expected to attract substantial investment into Ukraine’s economy and strengthen the country's position in the global steel market.

Ukraine Launches Third Biomethane Plant and Plans Bioethanol Production with Brazil

Ukraine has launched its third biomethane plant, with plans to add four more within the year, as reported by the Bioenergy Association. The first two plants produce 3 million cubic meters per year, while the third plant has a capacity of 11 million cubic meters. If all seven planned plants are operational, Ukraine could produce up to 111 million cubic meters of biomethane annually. Exporting this gas could begin in the coming weeks.

Biomethane is a carbon-neutral alternative to natural gas, produced by enriching gas from biomass. It can be used for heat and electricity generation, as fuel for transport, and as raw material for the chemical industry.

Additionally, the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy is prioritizing deep processing and bioethanol production. Brazil, a global leader in bioethanol production, is considered a valuable partner in this area. Bioethanol, used as fuel for agricultural machinery and vehicles, could become a cornerstone of future bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Brazil.

Ukraine to Receive €300 Million from EIB for Hydroelectric Plants and District Heating Modernization

Ukraine has secured €300 million in financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the restoration of Dnipro hydroelectric stations and modernization of district heating systems. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal confirmed that the funding includes €200 million for the recovery of the Kaniv, Kremenchuk, and Dnipro HPPs, focusing on equipment procurement to restore operations following Russian terrorist attacks.

Additionally, €100 million will be allocated for modernizing district heating and improving energy efficiency in Ukrainian communities. This includes the purchase of boilers, engines, turbines, and related equipment. The Ukrainian government has already prepared letters to the EIB to receive funding for projects under the framework agreement between Ukraine and the European Investment Bank.

Ukraine Signs Memorandum for Hydrogen Corridor to the EU.

Ukraine has signed a memorandum with several domestic and international organizations and companies to create and support the implementation of the "Hydrogen Corridor Ukraine - EU." The memorandum outlines joint efforts to harness Ukraine's renewable energy potential and integrate it into the European energy market.

This initiative focuses on the future development of renewable energy and hydrogen production in Ukraine, as well as facilitating its transport via pipelines to Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany after 2030. The plan includes utilizing existing pipeline infrastructure, some of which will be repurposed to carry hydrogen.

Additionally, the city of Bucha, near Kyiv, is set to become the site for a green industrial zone with an investment of $500 million by 2029. The project, spearheaded by Ukrainian company UTEM, Japan’s Tsubame, and Poland’s Hynfra, involves creating an energy cluster for producing "green" hydrogen and converting it into ammonia. The project is expected to provide 3,000 jobs, with funding anticipated from Japan and international financial institutions.
